Dark Strokes – charcoal sketches (2021-ongoing)
These are so-called automatic drawings that emerge on the paper spontaneously. It’s almost like a meditation without any intent.
Usually this technique results in abstract lines or shapes. But I also like to use it to let figures or faces come to me. It is hit-and-miss, but sometimes a face appears – interestingly, it’s often a character from my novel. I use charcoal sticks on slick recycled paper (A3: 297 x 420 mm / 11.7 x 16.5 in)
